Acceptable Use

What is blocked

• Hate: content that attacks, demeans or stereotypes people because of race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability or similar traits.
• Sexual content (NSFW): pornography, nudity, sexual acts and sexually explicit or suggestive lyrics.
• Violence and gore: content that depicts, glorifies or gives instructions for violence, gore or graphic injury, or that threatens physical harm to anyone. Songs about loss, grief or remembrance are fine.
• Child safety: any sexual, abusive or exploitative content involving minors, including child sexual abuse material (CSAM). This is always blocked.
• Self-harm: content that encourages, glorifies or gives instructions for suicide or self-injury.
• Deepfakes and impersonation of real people: songs that pretend to be written or sung by a real person, that imitate the voice or style of a named real singer, or that harass, insult or humiliate a real person, including celebrities, politicians and other public figures. Songs for people you know, using their name, are fine.
• Copyright and trademark infringement: large pasted parts of other people's copyrighted songs, including the original “Happy Birthday” lyrics, and using brand names, logos or trademarks in a way that suggests a brand made or endorses the song. Original lyrics that use someone's name are fine.

How checking works

The form, any rewrite request, every lyric draft, every edit you save and every gift-page message goes through an automatic check. If content is blocked you will see a message and the draft is not used. If the checking service itself is unavailable, the request is blocked instead of let through, and nothing is charged or counted.

The music model may refuse too

The music model can also refuse lyrics that look sensitive to it, sometimes by mistake. When that happens the attempt does not count against your free versions or revisions, and you can reword the lyrics and try again.

Reporting

If you receive a gift page that breaks these rules, email support@writemeasong.org with the link. We aim to look at reports within 48 hours and may remove the page.
